Welcome to the Roman Empire!
Here is where the true storytelling of this site began. As mentioned before, I did not decide to keep a story until I reached this stage. I wish that I had, but I don't want to (1) not do anything or (2) restart, so I'm doing my best. If nothing else, this can be a journal for myself and my challenge. Let the Roman Era begin!
My richest skin 1 main lot family was chosen to be Emperor. I have to admit that it wound up being the family for which I was hoping, so I don't know if my choice was biased, but they did have the most money! Other skin 1-2 families became Patricians, mixed 2-4 families became Plebeians, and mostly skin 4 families became slaves. I was attempting to follow the rules of the challenge and be historically accurate, despite the inherent fallacies in following such a system.
I spent a joyous weekend completely redesigning my neighbourhood, building palaces and villas and shops. Some community lots were downloaded, but I made all the homes myself with some inspiration from other sites (especially http://tempustemporis.weebly.com for the Plebeian home/shop). Then it was time to move my sims in, change all their clothing and some hairstyles, find jobs, and generally just be ecstatic over all the new things my sims could do. It was actually a bit disorienting at first! I was so used to doing nothing but gardening, fishing, and trying for babies that I had serious trouble adjusting to a multitude of things allowed!
As suggested by some other simmers, I set my seasons to summer-fall-spring-summer, since winter doesn't really seem to fit the ancient Roman feel. My slaves are still living outside as well, so I didn't want them freezing to death every time I play. Enough will be dying in the Coliseum and for other various reasons!
