Slaves - the Akhrif Family
Oster and Fantasie Akhrif groaned as they saw their new home, which was admittedly even worse than their cave before the rise of Rome. Not only did they have three children of their own to take care of, Oster had his brother's children. Omar Akhrif, who was married to Kyrie Akhrif (now slave in Alystar Wood's houeshold), had died and left his two children in the care of Oster. Now Oster and Fantasie were willing to help, but they barely had room in this tiny shack for their own children! Sleeping outside would have to do.
James and Jilly, meanwhile, were also not thrilled about living with their uncle, aunt, and cousins. They missed their mother dearly and hated that she had been forced into a household. Both of them knew, however, that their time was coming. As they grew closer to adulthood, they would soon also be required to serve as household slaves. Marriage was the only thing that could free them. Jilly had heard rumours of baths even for slaves within the upper homes though and wondered sometimes if that might be better than this smelly hole. Her young cousins Yoanna and Yvonne seemed to each go through about five diapers a day!

Slave Life - Not Exactly Ideal
I think the Akhrifs are an example of a family that makes it work, no matter what the circumstances. Fantasie's brother and sister are both in better social positions, the family often get quite stinky (especially when the twins were toddlers), and James and Jilly's mother Kyrie is working as a slave in another household, but they seem happy. I was looking through all the photos and was struck by how pleased they all seem most of the time. Fishing, gardening, socializing... they are quite enjoying it. Perhaps not as great a situation as some of the other Roman Era families, but they don't seem too upset. After all, this is the way most of them grew up as Neanderthals.
The Chbihi clan comes next. Only four of them and one additionally created family, then the end is in sight!
